Another regulation that affects website owners. This affects those online operators who use third party ad networks such as Google AdSense, Yahoo and many others beginning 2014. This new regulation is propagated by the (D.A.A.), Digital Advertising Alliance promoting self-regulatory principles to avoid more stringent federal regulations.
This new regulation requires you to advise visitors to your website or blog what is going on concerning third party ad networks tracking and collecting their browsing activities to use in interest based ads.
It is important to note that using vague general statements will not be sufficient to be in compliance with this new regulation. Your notice to visitors must be presented at the same time as any targeted ad is be presented to them.
It boils down to this: Both first parties and third party ad networks must ensure that visitors and consumers have an immediate and real time option and notice to exercise their choice when a third party collects their browsing activity for advertising purposes.
